The first International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on 6 April 2014 was a fantastic success. By organizing your own event and showing your support to the White Card campaign, you have shown just how powerful sport and its core values can be in educating younger generations and fostering social stability, unity and dialogue among different communities.

Here are just some of the types of events and activities you carried out in 2014 to celebrate 6 April:

Symbolic action

You rallied your network around a group action representing 6 April (run for peace, musical compositions, photos/videos conveying a particular message etc.).

Artistic event

You gave free rein to your imagination by holding art competitions, designing posters and using a range of other artistic mediums to show how sport can be a tool for peace and development.

Debate / Conference

You brought together political leaders, sporting champions, specialists and influential figures from your community to talk about the impact of sport on society.

Open day

You held open days at your business or association for members of your community to give them an insight into your daily activities.

Sporting event

You held sports matches, tournaments and Olympic-style games to raise awareness among the participants and general public about the formative values of sport.

Working group

You organized workshops, open-to-all discussion sessions and awareness raising activities on the topic of peace and development through sport.
