The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development
(BMZ) commissions the Deutsche
Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to implement Sport for
Development and Peace (SDP) programmes with partner organisations in over 30
countries worldwide. The programmes create areas of learning
through physical activity and sport for children and young people from socially
and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. SDP offers the possibility for
young people to develop competences and social skills through training.
However, due to the current limited freedom of movement and sport caused by Covid-19, children and young people, as well as their parents, trainers and teachers should be encouraged to stay active at home. Based on SDG 3 “Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all, at all ages”, German development cooperation "calls to action" to face this physical and mental challenge to engage together online.
SDP instructors and coaches support the initiatives by sharing video clips via social media to spread their creative ideas how to exercise at home - to make people move. The corresponding “call to action” as well as further SDP material can be found on our toolkit: https://www.sport-for-development.com/
In
addition, German development cooperation takes part in the #WhiteCard Campaign 2020 to raise awareness on the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP).
