04 April 2020 05:00 - 11:00
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the youth play an important role in peace-building and sustaining peace. The growing contribution of sport to the realisation of peace in its promotion of tolerance and respect and the contributions sport makes to the empowerment of youth and as well as to health, education and social inclusion objectives is critical during the COVID-19 pandemic as physical activity is vital in engaging the youth both physically and mentally.
Young people across Africa are invited to make videos of themselves taking part in any innovative sporting activity of their choice at home, that contributes to fight against COVID-19 post it on UNESCO and Pan African Youth Network on Culture of Peace (PAYNCOP)’s social media (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) using the hashtags, and encourage their family and friends to take part in the challenge. The videos will NOT be more than one (1) minute long, and they must encourage at least five other young people to enter the challenge. This sporting activity must respect the containment measures in place across the globe, including staying at home, promoting personal hygiene, social distancing and the like, ensuring that does not help increase the spread of COVID-19. The hashtags that will be used include #IDSDP #IDSDP2020 #Whitecard #COVID19 #BeActive, #StayStrong, #StayHealthy #StayActive #Sports4SDGs #UN75 #CommonwealthSDP #AfricaUnion #SilencingtheGuns
