Ilonka Elmont Foundation Sports Day
In recognition of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the foundation will organize a Sports festival on Wednesday 2nd April 2014, which will facilitate approximately 180 children. Among these participants, there are 44 individuals in a wheelchair or with a walker. The first lady of Suriname, Mrs. Ingrid Bouterse- Waldring will officially declare the event open. Our sports day always promotes development; which aims to add more confidence and also interaction with each other. Children with mental and physical disability usually don’t mingle with each other, let alone see each other engaging in sports. They will be able to learn a lot from each other and gain the confidence to try it for themselves.
The event will promote peace because sport can be used as a binding factor. Through our Special Sport Events, we try to enlarge the sport participation and integration of these children. Sports can help build the development and character of a child, of which he/she can benefit when they grow older. Also, with sports you are constantly working on improving yourself which helps you build your self-confidence and feeling of security. And with feeling safe by trusting in yourself, you enhance your well-being. The kids will be engaged in sport activities such as; Chinese Soccer / djoel / robbers game / twin soccer / sprint relay / ten ball / jump rope / jump tag / wheelchair race / wheelchair relay / octopus / ten ball / robbers game.
Our Sponsors include; Kuldipsingh Group / MNO Vervat / Cirkel Group / Fernandes N.V. / Assuria / All Star / Surmac / BasicOne
Our event is open to the public. This is the first event of this year to be held by the Ilonka Foundation and the first of our fourth (4th) sports days to be held in 2014.
