BEGIN:VCALENDAR PRODID:-//Feedo Feed//NONSGML v1.0//EN VERSION:2.0 CALSCALE:GREGORIAN METHOD:PUBLISH X-WR-CALNAME:Special Olympics Hellas promoting UN Day of Sport for Peace and Development in Athens X-WR-CALDESC:The 6th of April marks an\nimportant date and milestone for the global community.  It represents a\nfirm commitment to harness the power of sport, a global common denominator, to\ngenerate core advancements in the areas of human development, social\ndevelopment, and peace. \n\nSpecial Olympics Hellas will\ncelebrate this day with a variety of sports and non-sports events\n\n1)      The\nInternational School Sport Federation (ISF)  &  the City of\nAthens will organize from 31/3/2014 – 4/4/2014 the 1st World School Sport\nEducational Games\n\nThe first ISF School Sport\nEducational Games, endeavor to define ISF philosophy, to show that the\nobjectives of the international School Sport Federation by far exceed\norganizational and administrative purposes.  The major concern and\nresponsibility of the ISF is education in and through sport.\n\nThe School Games provides a\nunique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the\ncountry to take part in more competitive school sports than ever before\n\n1st World School Sport\nEducational Games will provide students with the opportunity to participate in\nregular challenging physical activity, and develop an understanding of fitness\nfor life and the benefits of a balanced healthy lifestyle. Skills, concepts,\nknowledge and attitudes are developed through progressive practices and\nstructured games, designed to ensure maximum participation by all.\n\nThe School Sports Educational\nGame can form the backbone of a community, and ISF is driven to promote sports\nto further community spirit and bring peoples together. During the visit, the\ndelegations will have the opportunity to visit the city of Athens, the Athens\n2004 Olympic Sport Complex, the Municipality of Athens Youth Camp, the Marathon\nTomb, the Start Venue of the Athens Classic Marathon Race, and the Marathon\nMuseum. This initiative  aims to increase consistently the number of young\npeople developing sport as a habit for life. \n\nAlso, City of Athens will sing\nwith ISF a  Memorandum of Understanding to formalize collaborative\ninitiatives between the City of Athens and ISF.\n\nSpecial Olympics Hellas have\nbeen invited by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs to participate\nwith 8 attendants (six athletes  and two coaches/physical educators) and\n15 Special Olympics Hellas Volunteers in above activities. Students and\nPhysical Educators from all over the world will have the opportunity to learn\nabout the UNIFY® Project to foster acceptance, respect and youth leadership\nwithin their school communities and to help facilitate understanding of the\npotential for students of all ability levels, to be actively engaged.  \n\n2)     \nOn the occasion of\nthe International Day of Sport for Peace and Development, 6th\nApril, the Municipality of Athens will organize with cooperation of Special\nOlympics Hellas,  a Cycling Event under the title: The Athens by Bike \n\nAt the same time and in the\nFramework of the campaign " UN decade of action for road Safety 2011-2020\n" a seminar will be also conducted by Special Olympics Hellas to which 100\nSpecial Olympics Cycling Athletes and 50 partners and a lot of volunteers will\nparticipate, with main theme: Make Road Safe for Cyclists .
