Faroe Islands Celebrates Sport for All on April 6!
On April 6, sports federations and clubs across the Faroe Islands will open their doors to the public to promote the ideals of sport for all and help build a more cohesive and inclusive society. Sport is already a cornerstone of Faroese society, where 1 in 3 of the population of 51,000 is a member of a sports club and practices sport on a regular basis. It is a way for Faroese to remain connected with their community, often travelling from remote islands and sparse communities to compete.
The activities on April 6 coincide with the Faroese Confederation of Sports' 80th Anniversary celebrations. Thirty four (34) separate events will take place throughout the day on the islands of Norðoyggjar, Eysturoy, Suðurstreymoy (+ Nólsoy, Hestoy og Koltur), Norðstreymoy, Vágoy, Sandoy, Suðuroy. Sports activities on offer include: rowing, table tennis, triathlon, handball, judo, football, gymnastics, athletics and badminton. Members of the public and in particular the youth will be encouraged to get active, take part and try new sports, and share the ideals of IDSDP, the Olympic Values and the White Card campaign!
Atlantic Airways is the primary partner of the Faroese Confederation of Sports and Olympic Committee (FCSOC)
