Sport 4 Development Summit
06 April 2017 15:00 - 18:00
Conference Building - United Nations Headquarters
Hosted by the Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations H.E. Ambassador Courtenay Rattray.
Due to its vast reach, unparalleled popularity and foundation of positive values, sport is ideally positioned to contribute towards the United Nations' objectives for development and peace. To raise awareness of this potential, 6 April was declared as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) by the UN General Assembly. The adoption of this Day signifies the increasing recognition by the United Nations of the positive influence that sport can have on the advancement of human rights, and social and economic development.
To celebrate this important day, The Jack Brewer Foundation (JBF Worldwide) and Brewer Sports International (BSI) will host the Sport 4 Development Summit at the United Nations to further our mission to use sport as a catalyst to provide resources and opportunities to the world's most underserved populations and actively work to "Empower From Within."
Through our Global Ambassadors program, JBF Worldwide takes pride in mobilizing celebrity endorsers including professional athletes, artists and entertainers into various international initiatives and works with numerous partnering organizations in an effort to provide them with further knowledge and expertise as it pertains to global advocacy, cultural diversity, fan base activation and philanthropic endeavors. JBF Worldwide currently works with nearly 100 Global Ambassadors, making a positive impact around the world.
The Sport 4 Development Summit will aim to achieve the following objectives:
- Raise awareness for the benefit of using sport as a catalyst for developmental change and peace around the world and the tools that the United Nations and JBF Worldwide provide to do so.
- Create opportunities for synergies and partnerships between the sports community, NGO community and United Nations community to foster new development projects and ideas.
The Sport 4 Development Summit will bring together athletes, diplomats, NGOs and major sports industry individuals from around the globe in effort to create open dialogue surrounding sport for development topics, specifically using sport as a tool for peace building. The event will honor accomplishments made by governments, NGOs and current and former professional athletes using sport as a tool to educate and foster social change. Several athletes present will be honored with Global Ambassadors Awards to recognize their accomplishments in the global community.
