Mini basketball Games were organized with around 100 kids under 10 and 12 years old, living in the community of Cazenga, one of the poorest and most populous of the capital city, Luanda, which has a lot of delinquency. The Club Escola Desportiva Formigas do Cazenga initiated and ortganized this event and collaborated with the Angola Olympians Association (Associação dos Atletas Olímpicos de Angola).
In Angola, basketball is like a religion. The country won eleven times the African championship (male), and so, people have a really passion for this game. Additionally, Angola celebrated on 4th April 16 years of peace, after a long civil war of more than 30 years that has caused deep wounds to the people. This is the reason why it was decided on that day to use the passion that children have for basketball to convey a message of union, of peace and fraternity.
During this morning event, kids painted a wall about the 6th of April and heard testimonies from Olympians Athletes. They played basketball with adequate equipment and were provided with some tennis shoes. Water, sandwiches and fruits were available for them.
#WhiteCard pictures were made alongside the event, including with the basketball champions Nacissela Mauricio (Londres 2012), Victor Muzadi (Sydney 2000 and Atenas 2004), Joaquim Gomes alias “Kikas” (Atenas 2004 and Beijing 2008) and Carlos Almeida (Sidney 2000/Atenas 2004 and Beijing 2008), invited for the events by Mr. Ngouabi Salvador
